Hurricane Irma

I have never seen so many major disasters at one time. We started helping with Hurricane Harvey—and before you know it, there is Hurricane Irma. I haven’t even mentioned the immense fires plaguing the Western United States (we will also take donations to help here) or the earthquake in Mexico. Irma is a very difficult situation for CRF and all disaster relief groups. It is so huge, and it so close to the time of Harvey. We have all of our disaster equipment already in Texas and had planned on staying for perhaps years. We already have groups going to Portland, Houston, Rockport, Port Aransas, Aransas Pass, Wharton, Ingleside, and Beaumont. But we are determining just how we can help… Read more »

Kenya Elections

It’s certainly not a disaster like a hurricane, but it has been a disaster to us. The whole world has been watching the elections in Kenya between President Uhuru Kenyatta and Raila Odinga. The last time these two men ran against each other, it produced extreme violence. When they went at it again this August, the reported results showed that Kenyatta was re-elected with 54% of the vote, but his opponent alleged voter fraud and refused to accept the vote. When it was contested in the Kenyan Supreme Court, the results were annulled, and they are going to do the election over again in October. Hurricane Harvey Relief Updates

SEPT. 18 Update by Milton Jones My major professor in graduate school told me of his first trip to Calcutta to deliver a few thousand pounds of grain. He was overwhelmed with the poverty as he literally had to step over dead bodies on the street. He felt so small and his help so insignificant. In his discouragement, his mentor told him— “People are born one at a time, people live one at a time, and people die one at a time.
