If You Consume Less, There’s More for Others

In our last newsletter, I told a story about orphans in Africa waiting in line for my leftover food. I called it God’s Economics. I have received a lot of positive feedback from this lesson I learned. And it is very true. Americans throw away billions of pounds of food each year worth billions of dollars which could feed millions of people. If we were able to recover our wasted food, we could provide a 2000 calorie diet to 84% of the world’s population, according to Dr. Roni Neff of Johns Hopkins University. Our throw away society is costing us time, money and our environment. But our waste also has the potential to feed huge numbers of people who are… Read more »

Famine Relief Updates

Along with our ongoing water and famine relief projects in Kenya, Christian Relief Fund has also been busy fighting this horrible famine in other regions of the Horn of Africa. Dr. Dane Welch, one of Milton’s good friends in Amarillo and a board member of Crisis Aid, has been a key partner in distributing this relief outside of Kenya. We are not able to disclose the exact location of this project to protect our team on the ground. The food that CRF donors made available in this region has brought help and hope to many hundreds of families. Indeed, it has been a life saving partnership with Crisis Aid. Not only are people being fed, but people from all different… Read more »

In last month’s newsletter, we told you the sad news that the persistent drought and famine that has troubled the Horn of Africa for many years is back and may be worse than ever before. This month we want to tell you what we’ve been able to do with your support so far and what we plan to do with your continued support! God is doing great things through you! We have been able to immediately ramp up our water drilling projects in Kenya to provide even more clean water to people in need! We have expanded our goat distribution programs to rebuild flocks in areas where we have provided a plentiful water source. We are also on the ground… Read more »

Economics

Recently, I was preaching in Kenya where they are having an immense drought and food crisis. The ongoing drought in the Horn of Africa is part of what may be the greatest famine of our lifetime. After our church gathering, we decided that we would feed everyone. Since we announced it, there was obviously a huge crowd. The service lasted a little over four hours—so everyone was more than ready for the food. Since I was the preacher (and I had paid for the food), everyone insisted that I was first in line. I tried to position myself at the end, but they would have it no other way. There was so much food. People were ecstatic because so many… Read more »

Remembering Ken Welke

“Outdo one another in showing honor” (Rom. 12:10) No one did this better than Ken Welke. He made everyone feel special. We are going to miss Ken so much after his recent passing. Ken is the perfect example of why you should go on a mission trip with CRF. When Ken went to Kenya, he ended up sponsoring seven kids and got a life dream to build a high school there. Ken’s sponsored child, Kevin Owuor, caught his encouraging spirit. Here is what Kevin wrote to Ken and his wife Julie. I was once a street boy who could eat rotten food, sleep in the cold and drink wasted water. One who could be called a thief, one who could… Read more »
