Although it has some good material, I don’t really care for the title. I wish someone would write a book called When Helping Helps. Some economists from Yale and Columbia recently wrote a book called More Than Good Intentions. They studied charitable works around the world and found that some were good and others were not. Their conclusion was to find one that is helping and support it immensely. And don’t support the ones that aren’t doing a good job. I think that is a good analysis. My first task as president of CRF was to get some children supported who had been waiting for a sponsor. On the top of the list was a little girl named Maurine. She was from an place called Barwessa. When I investigated her needs, I found out that she had died waiting for a sponsor. She had starved to death because of the lack of food and water where she had lived.
