2014 Year End Letter – Milton Jones

2014 was a great year!  If you haven’t read our Annual Report yet, you can find it here. Here is a year end letter from our President Milton Jones. ____________________________________________________ When I think of 2014, I will always remember it as the year of WATER for CRF. We have drilled wells in the past, but last year was different. We were so graciously given a rig in 2013. But 2014 is the year we truly became a full-fledged water ministry. In fact, our water ministry has a name—Hope Water International. During this last year, we drilled nearly a well a week. Over 40 wells were drilled in areas of the Horn of Africa where it hadn’t rained in around seven… Read more »

Coming Home to CRF

To quit or not to quit? That was Brandon’s dilemma. There are upwards of ten million teens in Mexico that have decided for one reason or another to stop going to school. And when they do—problems like unwanted pregnancies, drug use or even drug trafficking can be right around the corner. Why would a kid quit? It could be to start working. Maybe a child’s family can’t handle the costs of sending their child to school. Or it may simply be that the child doesn’t see the hope of a better future with or without an education. That’s why it is so exciting that Brandon came back! He was one of our first sponsored children for CRF in Saltillo, Mexico…. Read more »

The Sharks

The Sharks are ALIVE and WELL! A popular doowop singing group from Amarillo, Texas is making the rounds again in Amarillo, Dallas and soon to be Midland. They are an entertaining a cappella group full of fun, nostalgia, and harmony. Back in the day, they even opened up for Bill Cosby. The Sharks are singing again to prove they are ALIVE and helping CRF by drilling water WELLs.  If you get a chance, go listen to them or do what they are doing—creatively doing something to bring water to people in a famine. If you want to help a Shark get further into water, help us drill a well!   We hope the Sharks inspire you like they inspire us!… Read more »

The Cosmic Lottery

My wife and I “sponsored” a child in Honduras through CRF.  Milton Jones, the president of the organization has been a speaker at a number of events I have attended. It was following a presentation he made over a year ago that I browsed through the pictures of children who needed sponsors so they could attend school. There was nothing exceptional about Felix Flores, except he was born in January 2002, about halfway between the birthdates of my two grandchildren. I figured I could use that as a reminder. In the early going, the pressure of other things got in the way of my remembering to regularly send a check. I received reminders and I’d send a check, and then… Read more »

Ronnie & Roonie

Ronnie and Roonie were twins born in the Kipkaren slum near Eldoret, Kenya. Their dad died of AIDS. And their mom feeling overwhelmed simply dumped Ronnie and Roonie in a trash heap and disappeared. Presumably she was HIV positive too. A Good Samaritan recognized the children who had been dumped and knew that they had a grandmother nearby. So Ronnie and Roonie were taken to her little mud house in the slum. Their grandmother didn’t want them but didn’t know how to get out of the predicament. This is the plight of so many in Sub-Saharan Africa. Parents die and older grandparents are left to raise the children. AIDS has caused a whole generation to disappear from this area. Ronnie… Read more »
