It’s Bed Time!

I have slept most of my life on a waterbed. I guess I’m just an old hippie, but I like them. However, Barbie talked me into buying a new bed. It’s a traditional bed, and I hate to admit it—but it is so comfortable! Whether it is comfort, relaxation, sleep, or whatever—it’s like this bed has changed my life. It wasn’t that expensive, but what an investment it was. If you are bed shopping, contact me, and I’ll tell you about it. I love my bed, and I can’t imagine what it would be like not to have it. I don’t even want to go back to my waterbed. And I certainly can’t imagine not having a bed at all…. Read more »

Kenya Elections

It’s certainly not a disaster like a hurricane, but it has been a disaster to us. The whole world has been watching the elections in Kenya between President Uhuru Kenyatta and Raila Odinga. The last time these two men ran against each other, it produced extreme violence. When they went at it again this August, the reported results showed that Kenyatta was re-elected with 54% of the vote, but his opponent alleged voter fraud and refused to accept the vote. When it was contested in the Kenyan Supreme Court, the results were annulled, and they are going to do the election over again in October. Christian Relief Fund has more sponsored children in Kenya than any other country. And this… Read more »

Remembering Ken Welke

“Outdo one another in showing honor” (Rom. 12:10) No one did this better than Ken Welke. He made everyone feel special. We are going to miss Ken so much after his recent passing. Ken is the perfect example of why you should go on a mission trip with CRF. When Ken went to Kenya, he ended up sponsoring seven kids and got a life dream to build a high school there. Ken’s sponsored child, Kevin Owuor, caught his encouraging spirit. Here is what Kevin wrote to Ken and his wife Julie. I was once a street boy who could eat rotten food, sleep in the cold and drink wasted water. One who could be called a thief, one who could… Read more »

Remembering Craig Cooper

Craig Cooper was a great man of God and a long-time partner with CRF as the director of our child sponsorship programs along the Southern border of Texas. He passed away in late March, and we miss him dearly. After a 20-year banking career, Craig embraced his true calling. His role as Director of Missions at the Pharr Church of Christ and as a partner with CRF touched the lives of many thousands of people. More than a dozen church plants in the Valley and Mexico are among the fruits of his labor! We are grateful for the years we spent in partnership with this faithful servant of God — a man who cared deeply about the welfare of children… Read more »
